Background:  Skowhegan Area Middle School and High School are working to improve 21st Century Skills among students.  Ninth grade students at SAHS School took the new ETS ICT Literacy assessment in Spring of 2006.  Students performed well compared with seniors at other high schools across the country.

Skowhegan would like to continue to help students strengthen ICT Literacy skills.  Using the assessment results, Skowhegan chose the ability to evaluate the quality of digital resources (among the seven skills proficiencies tested) to focus on for this project.

CEPARE and Skowhegan are forming a partnership to develop a model/process by which 21st Century Skills can be taught to students at different grade levels – 6th grade, 8th grade and 9th grade.  The first step will be to pilot test the model in one content area and then to apply key learning from the pilot across content areas in a more extensive roll out of the model.  The ultimate goal is to integrate the teaching of the skill set across multiple content areas in order to reinforce the learning.

Mission Statement:   Create a model/process to teach students in 6th, 8th and 9th grade how to evaluate electronic/digital resources within the context of authentic learning activities using laptops/computers.
