Middle school students shouldnt even be having sex.  They are to young for that there only 12-14.

first of all, why are middle schoolers having sex in the first place? but being able to have birth control would keep this students from getting pregnant. i think it's a very controversal issue but they do need to talk to their parents beforehand if they choose to do this. people don't understand the severity of the health risks of having sex.

I believe that birth control should not be offered to middle school students.  In high school if students wish to be sexually active and want birth control, then they go to the doctors and parents are notified.  If in high school parents have to be notified, then middle school students parents should definetly be notified.  Also, middle school students should not even be experiencing sexual intercourse, they are too young and not mature enough to protect themselves.  Giving them birth control, is just like telling them to go out and have sex.

I don't believe people at that young of an age should be allowed the luxury of the birth control pills. People at that young of an age should even be thinking about having sex. Cutting down on the teen pregnancy rate could be handled in other ways. This is only promoting this behavior. In order to get any kind of sexual contraceptives, people under the age of 18 should be required to go to the doctors.

I do not think that birth control should be allowed in middle schools, not even high schools. Middle schoolers shouldn't even be having sex. Most middle schoolers are between the ages of 10-13.. which is deffinatly not an apropriate age to be having sex. Parents need to have a say in what their children do, and allowing them to get birth  control without their parents consent shouldn't be allowed. When middle schoolers are given the chance to get birth control in their middle schools without their parents is pretty much telling them they can go out and have sex.

I think that birth control should be provided to middle school students so they can practice safe sex.  Even though I think that middle school students are not mature enough to become sexually active, birth control should still be offered.  If birth control was not offered, students who are having sex will not have the right knowledge and it may lead to unplanned pregnancies or STD's.  If students were able to get birth control then they could be safe and have more knowledge and maybe not choose to become sexually active until a later date.  I do believe, though, that parents and doctors should be informed if the child is using birth control.

I think middle school students shouldn't have birth control because they shouldn't be having sex in the first place.  They are 13 and 14 year olds students that shouldn't even be thinking about having sex until they are much older.  

I think that it is absolutely stupid that middle school students can get birth control without permission from their parent's permission.  For one thing, middle school students should not being having sex at their age anyways, and if they are, their parents should defiantly know what their child is up to.  Another thing, by giving middle school students birth control, it's basically saying that having sex at that age is ok to do, and that their parents do not need to know what is going on in their lives.  So say one of the girls is getting birth control, and she does not tell her parents, the next day a friend of hers tells her that she is going to kill her.  Let's say that she does not tell her parents because she does not think that she has to.  So giving the middle school students birth control it is bad in more than one-way.  

I dont think middle school students should be getting birth control. I think that if you give them birth control you're saying go right ahead and have sex, just be safe. At their age they shouldn't be thinking of sex. I agree with Sasha that if you give a kid in middle school birth control then their parents should know about it. They should know where and what their kids are doing.

I agree with Janet no way should middle school students be able to get birth control without their parents knowing. They're way to young to be having sex. In highschool it's a little different, the kids are older and other kids will do anything to fit in. But middle school students should be more worried about grades than their sexual life.

OK. I have mixed feelings about this.  If these kids are having sex already they might as well have birth control, because they deffinatly don't need a baby at their age.  I don't think that the school should be making a desicion on whether or not these kids should have birth control or not, though.  That should be their parents desicion.  If these kids really want birthcontrol and are sexualy active, they should talk to their parents about it. And why aren't they offing this to high school students instead?

I don't think it is right at all to let middle schoolers get birth controll from the school. The paretns should be the ones to talk to their children about birth controll. If you give middle schoolers birth controll its just like saying "Oh its okay you can go have sex whenever you want" And i think thats wrong because high schoolers arnt even getting that and i think for middl;e schoolers to get it would just be a disaster.

I think that it' rediculous to give birth control to 13-14 year olds. I don't think it's right it's just giving them more insentive. It's alomost like it's okay go ahead at least you won't get pregnant. I belive that middle schoolers don't relize the consicuinses of they're actions a lot of the time and the idea is already in there heads so we shouldn't help it. If you give birth control to middle schoolers they will be tempted and some will, then others will follow just to fit in. If they're old enough to have sex they're old enough to take resonsibility for their actions and talk to their parents about it! If you are going to have sex at such a young age you should be aware of the consicuinses and relize you CAN get pregenant and you CAN get an STD. It's not a joke it's real and it happens everyday. You need to know what could happen if you do habve sex and be aware of what could happen. If you get yourself into that kind of situation when your that young you ARE going too make a name for yourself. You are taking a huge risk. We shouldn't encourge that!

Middle school  students should not be recive birth control. they should not even be having sex its stupid there will be plenty of time for it in the future. In middle school you should be more woried about if you got your home work done or if you are going to be able to go to the movies that night. Personaly i think that if you have a child in middle school having sex than your not doing your job as a parent. You should make sure that your child is to busy to be having sex make then do sports and help out with the comunity if they dont have time then they wont do the crime.

Birth Control really has no business being brought into the middle school, an neither should it be offered to the young scholars without their parents concent. Then again the kids need to know about sex, the diseases you can catch, pregnancy, birth control, condoms, etc. Thats why many, if not all school districts have health or a form of Sex Ed. Young students are curious and may want to find out about sexual intercourse, or any sexual activities. These students, kids should be allowed the opportunity of being safe. And Birth Control is a safe, and working product. So I think these young students should have the knowledge, and access to Birth Control with their parents consent. Young middle school students are better off safe, then clueless.

I think that it is a good idea because it helps so that the kids don't end up having a baby. I don't think that it is right for kids to be having sex but I think that this way it is safer instead of them going in and having a kid or getting a disease because they were unprotected.

First of all people can have sex whenever they want too. Birth control is an easy way to prevent pregnancy..If people want to have sex you can't stop them so its no use to try, just let them be safe. Anytime someone has sex and doesn't want a baby the girl should be on BC or at least use a condom. I know I would never be without one of the two it's just crazy. let the people be safe!

there school That's whats Health class is for and kids there age dose no what all that stuff is or about I think they should just wait and like Jillian said if they give it to them they are gonna want to try it to be cool and fit in and if they don't other  kids will be bullied and that's not good school are only starting the problem so there is a wake up call.

Paul has a good point. I believe that we need to give kids that same amount of sexual education that we are getting if they think that they need it.

i think they are to young and that it is like the school is saying that it it fine to have sex at that age but if the school is giving out protection i dont see why the parents have the right to know i mean isnt there laws in the state of maine that say it is illegal for a doctor to tell about what the patient says to them?it is the same for a school nurse see has a licence so the laws applie to her too.no they should not have the ills at that age but they get them anyway so i dont think parents should know

Um don't they know that to some girls it can kill you. And for starters middle school kids shouldn't be haveing sex.

I disagree with Studley Dudley why should we just let them do it????? It is completely and morally wrong. By doing this we are promoting sex to people that r 12-14. This isn't right. What were u thinking abut when u were in middle school?????? I'm sure that it wasn't sex.... that was probably the furthest thing from ur mind. I know that in Middle School I wasn't even think about sex.... I was thinking about my grades and my future and mostly how I could be a better person and help this world. I wasn't think about having sex and having birth control provided to me via school. I am almost positive that u weren't either.
So no I don't think that the Middle School students should be provided with birth control.

Well the most interesting thing  I found in this blog subject was that the students that agree with the birth control issue can't spell. Maybe if they had been thinking about school instead of sex they could do better than the third grade education they show on this site. I also want to say that if you can't spell by the time you reach high school your career may just be at McDonald's. If your lucky. So look toward a career and college. Sex? Later, we all have plenty of time. Guys do you like having someone else's leftovers? I know I wouldn't want to be second best. Girls, how many other girls has your guy been with before you? Yuk. Gross. Do you really want to marry a guy that has had sex with more than 5 others? 10 others? Even 3 others? Not me.

Hey thanks lanil2828 but I was just stating what I believed in and I don't think that allowing birth control in the Middle School is right. This is not what the Middle School students should be focusing on!!!!!!

i don't think that middle school students should be given birth control by the state.if they get it it should be from their parents. my sister is going to the middle school next year and if she comes home with the pill and tells my parents i will be thouroly pissed off at the state and sue.

no birth control should not me offered in Middle school they are WAYYY to young! but i do think that it should be offered in high school.. there has been more preg. girls in this shcool last year and this year then i have ever seen in the past years.. its crazy!

I think that whether you like it or not, kids are changing.  I definitely don't agree that Middle School kids are ready to have sex, but it's better to know that if they are, they're doing it safely.  How many teens in Skowhegan have gotten pregnant?  How many Freshmen?  Middle School Students are only a year or two younger, it could happen to them.  So why take the risk of your child getting pregnant, or getting STDs, or having to get an abortion/giving birth to a still-born when you don't have to?  I'm not supporting little kids having sex, but I think it's ridiculous not to take action to protect your kids.

Well that is a very interesting thought but what if it was your kid that was going to have sex... would you rather them get the birth control from the school and you not know about it or would you rather be the one to take the safety precautions and bring them to get the birth control at the hospital were you know what the hell is going on and that their not sneaking behind your back. Trust me this is never good... I know someone who did sneak aroud and have sex behind their mothers back and if they were given the option of having birth control provide for them via school then the would have rather told their patents.

I think the pills should be provided to the student if they really need it.  I think it's an okay idea because there are some parents out there who don't care (sad, but true.)  If the school is the only support they get then I think it's okay.  So I guess what I'm saying is students should be able to get the pills as a last resort.

I feel that middle school students should be able to get birth control. I don't think it is right how some of you are just dissing other peoples opinions and putting them down for what they believe in, and in any case the people that are making the biggest deal about them not getting birth control probably haven't had sex, right? Being sexually active is scary and yes i talk from expirience but don't you think it is wise to at least let them be safe about it. Orange101 is right some parents don't care, and if a person wants to have sex then they are going to have sex. Birth control isn't only for sex by the way....it helps some girls with other medical problems, oh and I have never heard of it killing anyone, but in any case the girl would still have to talk to a doctor before being put on ANY pill.

Oh and by the way undercoverstudent_220 having sex with a person that already had sex, doesn't make them second best. If you are mature about having sex, then you do it because you love them. So personally I think you have alot to learn.

i think that this issue has too many sides to it. First, there is the fact that middle schoolers shouldnt be having sex in the first place, but there is the fact that if they are doing it, their going to keep doing it with or without their parents consent. If the parent says o they're going to want to do it even more now because its forbidden but if the parents says yes then the kids going to say..woo-hoo free range. Its good that their is an option for protection even if most of us feel that they shouldnt be doing it that young in the first place
